That Would Be a Great Setup If I Had a Bedroom

Context is everything. Without the true context of a situation, the true needs, the machine assumes and you assume and somewhere along the way you realize you've been designing a room that doesn't exist.

That Would Be a Great Setup If I Had a Bedroom
This is my bedroom. Honey is in charge of it.

I was working with a new AI app called APT. I answered the questions and got back a great profile with a ton of very specific details about how my mind works, where my strengths were, where my weaknesses were. It listed a bunch of possible jobs that might be a good fit according to those strengths.

I picked one and the next thing I knew I was being given more prompts and more questions, going into deeper and deeper detail. Nitty gritty details.

I thought I was building a routine. A dedicated space set up for charging electronics, setting down the wallet, keeping a notebook or a to-do list. I could literally see it in my mind. Coming into the bedroom at the end of the day, hooking up the phone, taking off the watch and setting it on the charger, hanging up the keys, dropping the wallet, changing into the bathrobe hanging on the hook and heading into the shower the next door down the hallway. The picture was so clear.

I had a list. Hooks and baskets, trays and shelves.

Then the AI dropped a line about building the system and testing it before presenting it to anyone else. I felt stupid. Here I was thinking I was just doing a test run of the interface and the AI was trying to create a real live setup. I didn't tell it I was testing. We weren't working together to create something real because I didn't give it my real current situation. It thought I was a working truck driver going home every night.

I wasn't building something for my life. I was building something for a life I don't have.

Context is everything. Without the true context of a situation, the true needs, the machine assumes and you assume and somewhere along the way you realize you've been designing a room that doesn't exist. The AI didn't know. That's not its fault. I didn't say. That's not stupidity. That's just what happens when you walk into a conversation without your whole truth in your hands.

I still think the system the AI and I created together is solid. Hooks and baskets, trays and shelves, the bathrobe on the hook, the watch on the charger. A real setup for a real end of day.

That would be a great setup if I had a bedroom.
