One Safe Mile at a Time

This page is here for every kind of day on the road — the heavy emotional ones and the ones where you just need better skills to stay safe and efficient. No fluff, no judgment. Just real tools from someone who's been out here doing it.

Emotional & Mental Health Support

The miles can get loud in your head. These are some of the quieter, driver-friendly resources that have helped me or other drivers I know:

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Call or text 988 anytime, 24/7. No shame in reaching out.

  • Truckstop Ministries -24-hour prayer line and chaplains who actually understand trucking life.
    truckstopministries.org
  • Women In Trucking (WIT) — Real community, safety discussions, and support specifically for women drivers.
    womenintrucking.org
  • St. Christopher Truckers Fund — Help when life throws a serious curveball.

You're not broken when the slow days or heavy thoughts hit. One honest breath, one prayer, one safe mile at a time.

Practical Skills & Driving Resources

These are the hands-on tools that help you feel more confident behind the wheel — whether you're still sharpening your backing, nailing pre-trips, or staying legal with hours of service.

Backing & Parking Maneuvers (great for tricky spots and building confidence):

  • Apex CDL Institute – Their long pre-trip and backing videos are clear and used by thousands of drivers.
  • Driving Academy (CDL Truck Driving School) – Solid videos on the 4 key parking maneuvers and mastering any setup.
  • Schneider Driver Training videos – Straightforward backing demonstrations from actual drivers.

Pre-Trip Inspections:

  • Apex CDL Institute’s full Class A Pre-Trip Inspection video (over 8 million views for a reason — it’s thorough and examiner-focused).
  • Schneider’s Ultimate Guide to CDL Pre-Trip (Dana walks you through it step by step).
  • SafetyTN or Hirschbach Motor Lines videos for real-world walk-arounds.

Trip Planning & Hours of Service (HOS):

  • Look for clear explanations from channels like TRX Express or Freight 360.
  • FMCSA official site is dry but the gold standard — pair it with a good YouTube breakdown.

Merging, Yielding & Highway Situations:

  • Search YouTube for “truck merge tips” or “defensive driving for trucks”.
  • Focus on speed matching, giving merging traffic room when safe, and never forcing the issue.

Pro tip:

Search YouTube for the specific skill you need that day (“offset backing slow motion” or “HOS 14 hour rule explained”). Save the good channels for when you’re parked and have signal.

Faith & Encouragement

Simple things that travel light: gratitude notes in your phone, listening to Scripture while rolling, or pulling over for a quiet moment when the road feels too much. Remember — He’s got this, even on the toughest runs.

A Note from Me

These are resources I’ve found helpful or heard good things about from other drivers. Some days you’ll need the emotional side more, other days it’s all about sharpening your pre-trip or backing setup. Take what works for you and leave the rest.

Got a video, app, or resource that’s saved your bacon on the road? Drop it in the comments on any post or message me — I may add it here.

Drive safe. Plan where you can, breathe when you need to, and keep stacking those safe miles.

You’re doing better than you think.
