One Safe Mile at a Time Series
One safe mile is the only unit that's actually manageable. You can't guarantee the whole run. You can control this mile.
Every driver knows the pressure.
The window that's already closing. The dispatcher who needs you to push. The math that doesn't work no matter how you run it. The body that's telling you one thing and the miles telling you another.
This series exists because nobody talks about that honestly enough.
Not the rulebook version of safety. Not the training video version. Not the compliance checklist that looks complete on paper and leaves out everything that actually happens inside the cab.
The real version.
What it looks like when mental stress becomes a safety issue. What fatigue actually is before it announces itself as dangerous. What weather does to a decision you have to make alone, in real time, with 40 tons behind you. What receiver delays cost you in ways that never show up in your logbook.
I've been doing this eleven years. I've had the moments most drivers don't talk about — the ones where you kept going when you probably shouldn't have, where you made it through something that could have gone differently, where you sat in a truck stop parking lot afterward and just — sat there.
This series is the honest account of what safety looks like from inside the cab. Not from a podium. Not from a policy manual.
From someone who is out here doing it.
One safe mile is the only unit that's actually manageable. You can't guarantee the whole run. You can control this mile.
So that's where we start. Every time.
